What happens if you hand someone a ball of clay?

On May 19th and 20th, 2017, I handed 72 people small balls of clay, about the size of a ping pong ball. Each person made a sculpture and handed it back to me along with a self-addressed postcard. The sculptures were then fired and colored with ink.

From March 2018 to November 2020, the sculptures found their way around the NY city area. Their placement was documented and a postcard sent to the maker.

Scroll down to see a selection of postcards. All identifying information about the maker has been removed. You'll know yours if you see it. Or contact me and I'll connect you with your ball of clay and where it ended up.

Perhaps it will still be there if you go look for it...

Participants sculpt their ball of clay and fill out postcards.
